All the Same
by Alisha Glass

We are all the same people

No we are not,
I am different from you

But we are all the same

We do not look the same
I am not the same color skin

Yes, but still we are the same
You and me

Our hair is not the same
Mine is dark and dry
Yours is light and bouncy
You have bright blue eyes
My eyes are the darkest brown
You walk though one door
And I walk though the other
You sit in the back
When I am made to sit in the front
You are the norm
And I am the outcast

But we are the same
Underneath it all
We are all made of the same
In the dark, there is no difference
In the dark I can't see your skin color
Or the color of your eyes

But my days are not lived in the dark
These are dark times
But daylight shines on me
I can't hide in the darkness

I will hold your hand and close my eyes
But I will still see light
I will see you for who you are
The differences I will not see
And we will walk
We will show the world
That we are the same
You and me
